Habitat and distribution representative records

Exemplary records (Representative or Primary records) represent typical values of an attribute for a taxon, which may have many records for this attribute. Up to five of these records per attribute, per taxon, may be labeled as Representative records; one record, representing the broadest swathe of a species' associates, may also be labeled the Primary record. For instance, a species found in Peru, Chile and Brazil might have a Primary record of South America.

taxon summary contains two files:

  • basal_values_resource.txt lists existing records that are tagged in the database as representative or primary records.
  • basal_values.tar.gz is a DarwinCore Archive of newly generated summary records.

parent taxon summary contains two files of the same information for higher taxa, summarized from their descendants

  • parent_basal_values_resource.txt lists existing records that are tagged as exemplary
  • parent_basal_values.tar.gz is a DarwinCore Archive of newly generated exemplary records
